Peer Review 2: Stop Motion

This time we crit'd the stop motion group - their objective was to create a stop motion animation outlining the development of the renovatoin or reconstruction of an existing building in the site revolving around the idea of sustenance.

My first was Yiheng: http://yjia107.blog.com/

Yihengs model of sustenance derived from the super-intensive population densities of major cities such as Hong Kong and Tokyo. He described to me how these places can become a nightmare to live in due to crammed space in apartment-living, and how a revolution of space can redefine the utilization of that same apartment room to create a more healthy living and sustenance. I really liked this idea, and I personally thought it was a very strong focus to develop an idea from.

Despite that, Yiheng's A1 sheet didn't show an exterior view of a final project, and I'm not sure that he chose a building to renovate or reconstruct. He explained to me how he's also looked back at his previous project, which made use of cubes and stacked them together to form a 'city.' His main development was the investigation of the interior space and how to make it more 'liveable,' with ideas like storing tables and furniture into the wall when they're not needed, and tucking away 'cubes' and pulling out others. Although Yiheng was on a good course where the end result could potentially just have been a revolution of space, I felt as though the work was incomplete. Apart from that it was a solid effort.

Here's a link to his animation

The Second crit was Yumeng's: http://ccarchdesign.blogspot.com/

Yimeng's initial goal was to design an eating space where people could relax from work, "sustaining" them for the heavy workload. She experimented with ideas for the arrangement of furniture and tables in the space, and explained to me the link they have to the spillage of food (The coffee stains support this idea too).

It was a very colourful project, but for me it lacked development. I definitely think she could have focused more of the colours of the walls and the ambient mood inside the space, rather than the organisation of the tables. If i was in that space I'm not too sure how relaxed I could be, with all the disorientated tables.

There was an error and some of us weren't assigned a specific final crit, so we chose ourselves and so the final crit was Vasilije: http://architecturaldesignvasilijerakovic.blogspot.com

Vas was the first person I crit whose project utilized the stop motion aspect suitably and incredibly to explain the development and support the ideas of the project.
